Ft. Mead is home to the National Security Administration and the US headquarters for cyber operations. The post office employs more than 55,000 people, and almost 10,000 live in the factory. In fact, Meade is the largest employer in Maryland and the second largest in the state. The base is home to the Defense Information School and the US Army Field Band. US Cyber ​​​​Command, National Security Agency, Defense Courier Service and Defense Information Systems Agency based at Fort Meade. At the George J. Mead Museum, you'll find historic artifacts from the installation and several historic vehicles, including a UH-1H helicopter. Meade is best known for defeating Confederate General Robert E. Fort George G. Meade is located in Maryland between Washington and Baltimore. The post is located about 20 miles from Annapolis, the capital of Maryland.

If arriving by car, follow MD-295 toward Washington DC to US 175 East. Then follow Highway 175 East to the intersection of Reece Road to the traffic lights. At the traffic light turn right onto Reece Road and follow the signs for the installation.

Ann Arundel and Howard counties are located 200 miles southwest of New York on Interstate 78 and 700 miles southeast of Chicago on I-90, I-76 and I-70.

If you're coming from Florida, it's about 1,085 miles northeast of Miami on the Florida Turnpike, I-95 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

The nearest major airport is Baltimore-Washington International. But the Dulles International and even the Ronald Reagan International could work.

Ft Meade's mission is to serve as the nation's platform for intelligence, information and cyber operations. Major units at Fort Meade include the 1st Medical Recruit Battalion. In addition, the 3rd battalion to support the 312th regiment is in position. This three-component organization includes active, reserve and guard reserve soldiers under the same command of the 72nd Polish Artillery Brigade.

The 70th Reconnaissance-Observation and Reconnaissance Wing is an air force unit that includes airmen, reservists, civilians from the Ministry of Defense and others. The wing conducts and provides intelligence operations for the NSA and the Air Force.

Other notable tenants include the 32nd Civil Support Group, the 48th Combat Support Hospital and the 55th Signal Company.

Why Live At Fort Meade?

Ft. Meade provides support to more than 50 tenant units, including the Defense Information School headquarters, the National Security Agency, and the U.S. Army Band.

This military station dates back to the First World War. In 1917, the War Department used 5,400 acres of land to build a training camp. An interesting fact is the land of Ft. Mead was once owned by Revolutionary War hero Major Samuel Snowden.

During the First World War, three infantry divisions, three training battalions, one depot brigade and a well-known group of women called "Zdravo girls" trained at the training ground.

The Hello Girls were a group of bilingual carriers in the Signal Corps. The switches helped ensure battlefield communications between the American Expeditionary Force and the French front lines. Although the Hello Girls wore military uniforms, and one of them was awarded a medal for meritorious service, no one called them soldiers. These women filled the gap between official War Department regulations on women serving in the military. Here is another group of women who participated in the war, although they were not military personnel.

The Maryland Renaissance Festival takes place from late August to mid-October in Crownsville (yes, that's a real name!) near Annapolis.

The Howard Arts Center provides space for several performing and static arts, including the Howard County Columbia Orchestra, a locally acclaimed orchestra, the Black Box Theater, and an educational program that includes summer camps and classes for adults and children.

Dairy children living in Ft. Meade has several school options. First of all, talk to the school liaison officer to help you choose the right school. Ask a variety of questions to narrow your search to available charter, magnet, private, and public schools. It is best to start looking for a school as soon as you receive your orders. There are 5 preschool/primary schools, 2 middle schools and 1 high school in the post office.

Talk to ČVN about enrollment requirements. Most often, you will need up-to-date vaccination records, a physical exam and proof of residency. The community schools are part of the Ann Arundel County Public School System.
